The Son of Rage and Love...The Jesus Of Suburbia...

Jesus Of Suburbia is not just a song, it is a whole belief for
me. It is, infact, my favourite song ever. It's about a guy who lives in Jingletown with his mother who is negligent and has a boyfriend known as Brad. Jesus Of Suburbia does not have anyone...and his life has been wasted watching television and experimenting with drugs. As it is said in the song,his younger years were spent "On a steady diet of soda pop and Ritalin".He's frustrated as his life seems purposeless and he's trapped and bored and longs to escape.So, he decides to leave his home.Disillusioned with life in Jingletown, he begins to transform into a character called "St.Jimmy." As the song "Holiday" suggests, Jimmy begins to learn about political injustice, and in his frustration,he starts annoying others. But soon he realizes how lonely he is in spite of The City's crowd which is mentioned in "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams." Because of his loneliness, he loses his way on the "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams" and he even loses his mind. This is where he tries to change or re-invent himself as the notorious "St.Jimmy" who is criminal minded and rebellious. He ends up with a split personality.He adopts a new lifestyle and the underbelly move under his influence.But his dual lifestyles are painful and he starts doing drugs again to try to escape the pain that he feels,which is mentioned in "Give Me Novacaine." Soon, Jimmy meets Whatsername who seems fascinating and he gets attracted to her.Jimmy thinks of her as a rebel...and soon they begin to go out and Jimmy falls in love with her.But differences begin to grow between them. Whatsername send him a "letterbomb" and explains him about her 'self-destrictive rebellion' and tells him that she can't take it anymore. Whatsername, then leaves Jimmy.Eventually Jimmy decides to let go off his identity as "St.Jimmy", which he had been using as a crutch. So, Jimmy kills himself. The Jesus Of Suburbia, then gets arrested at East 12th Street and his life begins to fall apart.In the end, he decides to return to Jingletown with memories of Whatsername.
